NALA'S STORY
We watched Nala grow up as she watched our family grow around her.
Nala was never simply a pet. She was family, a protector, a companion, and the heart behind everything this Foundation hopes to become.
2017 — THE BEGINNING
She came into our lives as a puppy. She became part of every chapter that followed.
Nala joined our family in 2017 as a brand-new German Shepherd puppy. She was nearly all black, with enormous ears, unforgettable brown eyes, and a personality that was already unmistakably hers.
As she grew, the tan came through and she became the beautiful black-and-tan German Shepherd so many people remember. But the most important thing about Nala never changed: she had the best heart.
A LIFE WITH US
She wasn't watching our family from the sidelines. She was part of it.
Nala traveled with us from Indiana to Dallas, Chicago, Houston and back home again. She was there for the milestones, the ordinary days, and the moments that became memories.
FOUNDATIONAL FAMILY
She stood beside us when our family changed forever.
Nala participated in our wedding alongside her brother Jax. Years later, when our son Leo came home from the hospital, Nala seemed to understand immediately that she had a new responsibility.
Protecting Leo became her greatest mission. She had always protected our home and our family, but with him there was something different. She watched over him as if that was exactly what she had been waiting her whole life to do.
She spent her life protecting her family. Now her legacy can help protect yours.

THE EXPERIENCE THAT CHANGED OUR PURPOSE
Nala had every reasonable option available to her.
When Nala became seriously ill, our family was fortunate to be able to pursue every medically reasonable path available to us—veterinary visits, diagnostics, imaging, emergency care, specialists and oncology.
Money did not decide how hard we could fight for her. In the end, medicine simply ran out of reasonable options that could give Nala the quality of life she deserved.
We didn't lose Nala because we couldn't afford to save her. We lost Nala because medicine had run out of reasonable options for her.
THE QUESTION SHE LEFT US WITH
What happens when another family still has an option—but can't afford it?
That question became impossible to ignore. Somewhere, a family may be told there is another diagnostic test, another surgery, another specialist, or another medically reasonable treatment that could help the animal they love—and then have to say, “We can't afford it.”
The Nala Legacy Foundation exists to help change that moment.

Nala had every option available to her. Her legacy will be helping make those options available to others.
We cannot promise every family a different ending than ours. What we can do is help give families the opportunity we had—the ability to pursue reasonable options and make decisions based on what is best for the animal they love.
